Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California Endorses Jessie Lopez for California's 68th Assembly District

SEIU California has thrown its support behind Santa Ana City Council Member Jessie Lopez in her campaign for California’s 68th Assembly District. SEIU California’s endorsement follows Lopez’s recent momentum of labor endorsements, which include UFCW Local 324, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, and SMART Local 170.

SEIU local unions in California are made up of over 750,000 nurses, healthcare workers, janitors, social workers, security officers, in-home caregivers, school and university employees, court workers, and city, county, and state employees.

In announcing their endorsement, SEIU California President David Huerta shared the following statement:

SEIU United Service Workers West President, David Huerta

“Jessie Lopez is a proven City Council Member and effective advocate for working families. Throughout her career, she has taken on powerful corporate interests to deliver real results for Orange County residents. Jessie Lopez is the kind of Democratic leader we can rely on to stand up to Donald Trump, expand access to affordable healthcare, confront the housing crisis, and defend immigrant communities.”

—SEIU California President, David Huerta

“I am proud to be endorsed by SEIU California. SEIU members are on the front lines of our communities, and I will stand shoulder to shoulder with them to advance housing affordability, expand access to healthcare, and defend the dignity and rights of immigrant families. Together, we will build a California that works for every working family.”

About Jessie Lopez

Born and raised in Santa Ana, Jessie Lopez is the proud daughter of immigrants who came to the United States seeking safety and opportunity. Growing up in a single-parent household, Jessie saw firsthand the sacrifices her mother made to provide for their family. As a high school student, Jessie graduated from her local public school district and Project Self, a program that launched her into work with law firms where she quickly learned the value of delivering results and working hard. Despite facing housing and food insecurity while holding down two jobs to put herself through college, Jessie persevered and became the first in her family to graduate.

Jessie stepped up to run for City Council because she saw a lack of leadership fighting for the best interests of Santa Ana’s working families. Elected to represent Ward 3 in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, Jessie has delivered real results—leading efforts to expand affordable housing, address homelessness, protect public land, and improve water quality.

Now, Jessie is running for State Assembly to be a voice for working families across California. She knows firsthand the struggles of affording rent, earning a fair wage, and working two jobs to make ends meet.

Your support can help elect local leaders who will fight for working families.
