CRYPTO CASH — Grow California, a PAC funded by crypto executives Tim Draper and Chris Larsen, will launch an ad buy of more than $1 million today to boost three Democratic state legislative candidates locked in blue-on-blue races against more progressive opponents.
The group will support Sara Hernández, who is running against Sarah Rascón in Los Angeles to succeed state Sen. María Elena Durazo; Eric Lucan in a North Bay fight against Jackie Elward for Assemblymember Damon Connolly’s seat; and David Penaloza in his contest against Jessie Lopez to succeed Assemblymember Avelino Valencia.
Grow — which also backed Hernández, Lucan and Penaloza in the primary election — has become a major player in state legislative races this year, pouring more than $10 million into IEs supporting and opposing candidates in the primary. The PAC, working with other business and tech interests, was able to advance many of its chosen candidates to the general election.
California Leads, a PAC initially funded by Meta and Google, supported some of the same candidates in the primary, an overlap that will continue into November. — Lindsey Holden
